Now witness the power of this fully open-source social media platform!

It’s not the open-sourceness, but the interconnectivity of the fediverse. Meta could, in theory, do this with WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.

Meta can do this only because it owns all the 3 companies. No private entity would want to exchange user-data with others.

Oh no, now you can’t support a website that is slowly but surely turning into a nazi shitfestthe horror!

Why the hell are you guys so addicted to twitter anyhow?

Well, I don’t support the site, in fact I never liked it. And after what Musk did to it, it’s complete shitshow. Problem is a lot of people I “followed” (weird mix of journalists, OSINT people, comedians, meme posters, etc.) never bothered to jump the ship or at least divide their presence to another platform. Nitter was a good way to still get what they have to say. Now? Screw you Elon!

Since you don’t seem to be aware, there are still companies are government bodies that do their announcements and such through Twitter still. And while “just don’t use it” is easy enough for me to follow, some people need it to know what’s going on with things that matter.

Please explain how Nitter supports any website.

You made me think, why have I shared Nitter links on Lemmy?

The one time I remember of several: someone shared a Trump/Epstein deepfake (as opposed to the verified photos of them together). Reverse image searching only returned Twitter results. Nitter allowed me to reference ostensibly the only public discussion anywhere online without risking Lemmings giving Musk ad revenue.

Addiction is not the sole driver of X-Twitter traffic. Information isn’t exclusively contained in wholly ethical spaces.
