They removed the post about how Hilary’s campaign supported Trump and made up a rule on the spot about not being recent. The first rule they noted as an excuse states:
Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.
which has nothing to do about being recent nor any other rules. They simply censor any valid critiques of certain politicians which is very dangerous, especially for a community that big.
I have a SUSPICION… but let me confirm…
Yeah… here’s the deal, mods are human and make mistakes. There are a couple of us who mod both Politics and World News and it gets confusing some times.
For example, both groups have a “Civility” rule, but one of them it’s rule 3 and the other it’s rule 5.
Lord knows I’ve done the whole:
“Removed, Rule 5 - keep it civil.”
Followed by “WTF, rule 5 isn’t ‘civility’!”
I’ve taken now to having multiple tabs open and going “Wait, which community is this again?”
In THIS case, World News has this rule:
“Recent (Past 30 Days)”
Which makes sense for a News community, if it aint “New”, it’s not “News”. :)
Politics doesn’t have that same restriction. It would probably be a good idea to add it, things are going to move fast in an election year.
Unfortunately, now, two weeks later, it doesn’t look like it will let me restore it, it says post not found.
But if you ever have a question as to why something got removed, feel free to reach out to the mods and we will get to the bottom of it.
Edit I was able to access and restore the post through slightly different means. Not that it will be that effective since it was from 2 weeks ago and is long since off the front page.
Thanks for restoring it. I think it is important for c/politics to allow older articles that are still relevant, since often media only tries to push the narrative it is currently benefiting from. This allows for people to have a bigger picture and see the causes of the problem we are in today and therefor how to change it.
I think I remember this post - wasn’t this like an eight year old article that you posted to the News channel?

That being said, I’ve found the politics mods always pretty reasonable. I’m sure @jordanlund@lemmy.world could explain. But the mods there allow tons of criticism of dems, so I doubt that’s why it was removed
Old articles are outside the scope of the politics communities since they’re about recent ones. Maybe there should be a political discussion community that can discuss old articles and relate them to the current political climate.
Edit: looks like the politics community doesn’t have that rule about recent articles like the news communities, seems like a valid post to me

Nope. You lose the account. You lose your community. Can’t wait until someone comes up with a solution to this. Not sure if it is technically possibly with lemmy to switch over to a system that allows for this or not.
U can download then upload ur profile so the communities u follow, saved posts, pfp (didn’t work for me idk why) etc can be transfered pretty easy but u lose comment and post history. Transferable account preferably through just having a private key that identifies/authes u would be awesome tho.

Go to your setting and export them. Then import them to the new instance.
You shouldn’t have political goals when moderating just to support certain politician. That is a conflict of interest and abusing the mod power to further a goal of your political candidate.
Why are you posting an 8 year old political news article? What was your goal?
It was an article about how we got into this problem in the first place and therefor how we need to go about fixing it. You can’t fix problems by only listing the media narrative that currently suits them without looking for the context in the bigger picture and dealing with the cause instead of the symptom.
Most of the new articles do exactly the opposite, they get us into making the problem worse by voting for the party that got him elected, the same problematic person they are running against in the first place. Just so they can do what they are doing now and have been doing since then, pretend that they are better alternative, while still supporting him because they need him to scare the voters into voting for them.
People seeking to score political points by posting news articles hate getting their posts removed for editorializing the headline. Did you editorialize the headline?
Reason stated for post removal was that it wasn’t recent. It has nothing to do with the headline. We can additionally make excuses all we want, but the post was valid and now, after publicly complaining, it was restored.
