Pills don’t magically make people constantly happy. But without them it’s barely possible to be happy in the moment

For me, they made me feel nothing even when I should feel something. My heart goes out to anyone going through this.

I’m not sure if you’ve tried this but just in case, ask your doctor to try other types of antidepressants which might not have the same effect. One pill might totally numb you but another might leave the highs alone.

I hope you and anyone else reading this can find something that works for you!

He still needs time to catch his breath. It’s like how getting a single good night’s sleep doesn’t leave you fully rested but it’s still important to do.

The first few steps aren’t “get better” but rather “stop feeling worse”.

Antidepressants aren’t a silver bullet for mental health, they only bring you closer to your (healthy) baseline. The most difficult barrier to a healthy change for mental health is our obligation to waged work, and in some cases are the cause of poor mental health.

He doesn’t habebthe direct pain of being chewed on, but the beast lingers there waiting for the pills to wear off.

      Of course they aren’t happy.

That’s because it’s a pill and not a joint, perhaps.

That’s because he killed death with pills, apparently, and now he became death himself, as it can be noticed by black clothes in last panel. And it is hard and ungrateful work to be a death. Why would he be happy?

The comic is about depression, not death.

He doesn’t look happy because the medication doesn’t magically cure him.

All they do is temporarily quench the longing to die. At least sometimes. The other times they just help you to fall asleep before you fall apart.

Ok, thank you for explanation, but I on purpose came up with alternative explanation making a joke.
