  • So here’s the question - is the scale consistent over time? That is, do we consider the same ideas left/right wing in 202x as we did in 199x?

Let’s assume it is. We’re seeing men lean towards the center/right, and a lot of people are asking why. The trouble is, the answer isn’t one people like to hear - in our headlong pursuit of equity, we’re introducing a lot of inequality. You lift the ladies up, while you let the men climb - all based on the assumption that the women had further to climb so what you’re doing is levelling the field.

Countering this is a sympathetic voice, one offering to bring back equality or offer a different kind of equity. Casting gender equity as a zero sum game, and pushing for equality aimed at the ones not being lifted up.

I often hear the “uneducated men” argument, but that’s just an ugly echo from the past serving those it once oppressed in a bitter irony. The reality is that even educated people can fall for propaganda. Especially when voting in what they see as their own self interest.

So if the average price was $50 in 2000, and is about $70 today, assuming a linear rate of price increases, it would be $1663.33 in 4024.

This is a terrible model: it likely underestimates as inflation is geometric rather than arithmetic.

For a geometric model we have r=1.011329 over this period, thus extrapolating we get a price of

    $208,200,000,000

Which is insane, because it is so low for Nintendo!

  • Really neat post, I’d not heard of a few of these (never knew libre office draw could edit pdfs!).

    Couple of extra ones:

Note taking and pdf annotation: Xournal++ is amazing, it’s also great to use on larger whiteboard screens. Plug and play support for scribe tablets on both windows and Linux.

Emulation (up to ps1): Mednafen is lightweight and comes with a gui. It also supports recording, though not netplay.

Ebook management/reading: Calibre - allows easy importing and exporting of ebooks to devices, also has a great built in search letting you find DRM free versions of a book.

    1. Employment - you currently have 0 social encumbrance. It’s a good time to job hop and move around, you meet a lot of people and learn a lot of social cues. Also better job gives more money for gaming.

    2. Stop looking; the dating world post 30 is absolutely horrific, and it will destroy your mental health. The people in there are not all that bad, but the online dating scene brings out the worst in everyone. Time to explore the wilds and visit local cafes (worst comes to worst, you get good tea/coffee).

    3. The type of people you meet varies with the type of game you play. If it has “more tits than a birdwatcher’s photobook”, you’re not going to meet many women. If it’s a wholesome online farming sim that ratio changes, but it’s still rough as a guy. Games are great for meeting people, but not for meeting lovers.

    4. At the end of the day, when the loneliness bites hard, don’t be afraid to call a hotline for help.

    5. Ok, ready for the big one? Stop looking for a partner and start looking for friends - the kind of people you can sit in a cafe with, or complain about work with. Guys, girls or those in between; doesn’t matter. The thing that helped me most was making a few good friends who I still travel over a hundred miles to meet monthly, and who I game with weekly online.

    Edit - pressed submit early

  • One of the videos you can hear “shooter down” before he gets up. Elderly, near death experience, and monumental arrogance would help explain his reaction pretty well!

Shooting him isn’t the way - but I can see why someone was scared enough to think it was. Just remember kids, voting for Biden isn’t just voting against trumpler - it’s saying you would literally prefer someone who is probably senile overhim. It’s a solid insult, and you should go out there on polling day to make sure he hears it.

  • It isn’t your computer, user license clearly states you’re renting the software. You always have been, it’s just now they can enforce that agreement more readily. Microsoft is making a lot of bad decisions at the moment, but the majority of consumers really don’t care - adverts and surveillance are what they grew up with.

You can switch to Linux, but as much as I love it (it’s my daily driver for work and for travel gaming, oh and the community is absolutely amazing), it’s not 1-1. You will have to jump through hoops sometimes to get things to run (but damn me there are amazing people out there who can and do help). Then again, you own it because it is free, and it will run most things with the right tweaks.

I can’t speak for MACs (too poor to use one, my devices tend to be upgradable or VERY long life), but I hear they’re a better experience in terms of less bloat/adverts. Again though, you are renting with Apple, and are largely trapped in their ecosystem, and they have a ‘reputation’ for lack of repairability
